The Shoonya campaign aims to improve air quality in India by accelerating the deployment of electric vehicles (EVs) for ride hailing and deliveries.
Imagine cities with clear skies and clean air, where you can buy goods and reach your destination without contributing to air pollution. The Shoonya campaign brings together consumers and industry, to reduce emissions from the commercial passenger and urban freight sector by promoting EV adoption. The campaign is administered by NITI Aayog in partnership with leading industry players. The goal of the campaign is to raise awareness about EVs among consumers and recognise industry efforts through an integrated combination of corporate branding, impact assessment and consumer awareness.
Goods and passenger vehicle movement are an integral part of the economy. However, deliveries and rides served by ICE vehicles contribute disproportionately to ambient air pollution and carbon emissions. The Shoonya campaign aims to improve air quality across Indian cities by eliminating toxic tailpipe emissions and driving EV adoption.

Shoonya presents an opportunity to transform the market and deploy over 11 million electric vehicles on Indian roads by 2030, accounting for 1500 billion electric vehicle kilometres travelled (eVKTs). There is no doubt that EVs are the future, and India is ready for this revolutionary move.

Competitive economics and available technology support the full electrification of India's commercial vehicle and urban delivery fleets on an accelerated timeline. The Shoonya campaign was created to enable this outcome.
